January 4 - Small Children

We had two small children at our house over Christmas. It was great, but I did rediscover that three year olds are not the greatest height for me to see. Of course, there were also numerous toys scattered around the carpet - toys which just added to the general confusion and merriment.

I don’t often think about how I see but this Christmas with family here was a reminder. I think that the most difficult times were when we were out walking. Because the weather was so nice, we were outside lots. The little kids ran and jumped in front and I took Lyle’s arm and we brought up the rear. However, every so often, one of the little children would stop to look at a coloured light decoration or just plain stop for no reason at all. When I didn’t expect for this to happen, I nearly always came to an abrupt stop too. The height of a three year old and the height of a fire hydrant is nearly the same and they are both blocked out of my vision. At least, small children are a lot softer to bump into than fire hydrants!

So, Christmas celebrations are over and our house is quiet again. In spite of the holiday chaos, I miss everyone and can hardly wait until we are all together again.
